What will happen?

So today me and two of my friends went to (store name removed). One of my friends decided to take a $20-$27 dollar charger and something else $10 and slipped it into my purse. I didn't see him slip it into my purse but we were stopped at the door and taken into a small room. They didn't call the cops but they took our info and said that we could possibly have a fine from $50-$1000 in the mail. We all just turned 18 and we live in southern California if that helps. Any idea what the letter will say or how much it will be? I just want to know what to expet or if I need to go to court. Thank you

The letter will come the retailers law firm or Civil Recovery service. It will cite your local Civil Demand law 490.5 It will ask for anywhere from $50.00 to $1000.00 expect yours around $300.00 give or take. Pay this and its over. Fail to pay or meet any payment arrangement and there are numerous actions they can take. All are long term and severe.
